Live From.... 03/31/2010

This is update is coming from Kelly's Fudge in Torrance, California, where the Boss and I are enjoying black raspberry green tea.   The Boss is in between appointments, and I am ably assisting with my calming presence.

I want to remind everyone that the offer to get two free books for purchase/reviews ends tomorrow.  This is not a joke.  So, get Plane Proposal here or at smashwords or for Kindle at Amazon today.  Buy today, and the offer for a free book is good through April fifteenth.

My tea is getting cold.  Have a good afternoon.

Monday x 2 03/29/2010

The sun's just coming up, the first batch of beans is brewing, it must be time to get to work.

The Boss was away part of last week, but is now hard at work catching up on Calling All Hearts, editing and formatting.  The Boss calls it a Trying to Do the Right Thing/Getting It All Wrong/Finally Making It Right story.  It's about a young woman who, following in her late father's footsteps, becomes a policeman, meets a man who seems to have everything, but thinks he has nothing to live for.  They get married and nothing goes the way either of them expected.  She's a nice girl who works hard at everything she does, but takes everything that everyone dumps on her.  It takes something very bad to make her stand up for herself and make very hard decisions.  He's a man who has never been considered very nice, who works hard at everything he does, and takes everything from everyone whether they want to give it up or not.  It takes something very bad for him to realize that decisions he makes effect not just him, but everyone around him.

Last week I offered to give away free copies of this book (the Boss wasn't exactly pleased about it, but finally agreed that it might work - only, it hasn't).  The problem has been that, although sales have been pretty good, there have been no reviews in places where they count - Amazon, for example.  I thought people might make the effort to review a book if they could get another book free for their efforts.  No one has taken me up on the offer.

The offer is still open until April 01.

Coffee's ready.

TGIW? 03/24/2010

Whew!  This has been a week.  The Boss was away on business for several days, leaving me to mind the place.  With spring in full glory, this was not a hardship.  The mourning doves are nesting in the tree outside the office window, and the quail have a new family of toddlers queuing up and down the back fence in the garden.  The rabbits think the new grass is delicious, and the squirrels are eating all the bread we put out for the birds.  The sky is bright, the breeze is warm and the evening skies are full of stars.

Sales have been brisk, especially for Kindle, on all three books, which has been very heartening around here.  The Boss has been working with another author to put a very exciting mystery/thriller on the shelves soon, and there will be another contemporary relationship fiction in April.  It's called Calling All Hearts, and it's funny and sad, and hopeful.  It's about a young police officer, who wanted love and marriage and family, and got everything mixed up.  Shh, I probably shouldn't mention this, it might be a secret, but it is dedicated to a law enforcement officer that's near and dear to Inknbeans Press.

This is supposed to be my day off, but since we got a nice comment from Donna about the Spring pictures, and I wanted to thank her, I thought I'd pop in and say hello to everyone.

Not much more I can add to that.  Oh, yes!  The Boss has the purchase links working finally.  If you want to buy a book (of course you do) the links now work.

The Boss is still working away on the two new offerings, so I decided to play with the Official Smartphone of Inknbeans, the Inknberry.  I found a video we made of some snow geese near the office last week.  Add a little Vivaldi, and voila...my first Youtube video.

Hope all the Irish (and the Irish For A  Day) had a great St. Patrick's Day.

The Boss is busy getting two new books ready to go live in April; another ro-I mean contemporary relationship fiction, and the other is a mystery/thriller written by a former criminal investigator.  Consequently, I don't have much to do today so I thought I'd make up a little questionnaire to see who's reading this, and what you have to say.  Annnnnd go:

1)  Do you a) read, b) write c) read about writing, d) write about reading or e) all of the above.

2)  Favorite genre:  a) mystery b) sci-fi c) fantasy d)ro-I mean, contemporary relationship fiction or e) historical/biographical

3)  Do you own an e-reader?  If so which one?  Why did you select that model?  Id you had to make the purchase again, would you choose the same one?

4)  Do you prefer a) first person b) third person c) omniscient narrator  or d) the royal 'we'

5) Do you like dogs?  If so, which breed?  What's his/her name?

Have fun.

This is usually my day off, but we got a nice review for my pet project, Wife In The Mirror, so I wanted to mention it.  Kristie Leigh Maguire posted it https://www.smashwords.com/books/view/10203.  Speaking of Ms Maguire, she has a book called Second Chances that we're almost done reading around here, but I feel pretty confident in saying that it's a fun, emotionally involving story about making mistakes and then making it right.  The heroine is what the Boss would call sassy.  We like sassy.  So...when you're through reading A Plane Proposal, Wife in the Mirror and Learning to be Irish, go read Second Chances.  Here's Ms. Maguire's website, where you can find all her works.  http://kristieleighmaguire.com

It's time for brunch!  Have a great day.

Here at inknbeans, Friday isn't the end of the week.  Because we work long hours, ten or twelve most days, we only work four days a week and take our days of rest in the middle of the traditional week.  I like it.  The Boss likes it.  So Friday is more like the middle of our work week.  That doesn't mean we don't celebrate TGIF.  This is a sort of wrap up day, banking and shipping to be done, a meeting to see where we've been, where we're going.  It's a feet on the furniture, chewing on pencils day.

Today we're celebrating the incredible response to Read An Ebook Week.  I won't quote numbers because that would sound like boasting - but, let us say it wasn't as much as we'd hoped but far, far more than we'd anticipated.

And we brought up our launch date for something really special.  I can only say that it will be in keeping with our promise to bring you the ultimate reading experience.  Originally planned for kick off in July, it looks as if we'll have trial offer in May, so watch for more details, soon.

One more thing:  I recently mentioned that one of our books, Wife in the Mirror hadn't sold a single copy.  Well, I have to take that back now.  It has outsold Learning To Be Irish, and is hard on the heels of Plane Proposal.  I hope you've enjoyed it, and will recommend it to friends.

Happy Friday, everyone!

Read An EBook Week 03/09/2010

Having a great response to Read An Ebook Week.

Wife in the Mirror and Plane Proposal are both moving like pancakes at IHOP during the All You Can Eat Promotion.  The really exciting thing for us, here at Inknbeans, is that not only are the free books doing great, but a lot of people seem to be coming back to get Learning to Be Irish, which is not free.

Book readers are such great people.

Sorry, didn't watch.  There was an NCIS marathon on USA.  Don't be so shocked.  Sometimes even the ever vigilant, ever efficient Miss Pupps needs comfort viewing.  NCIS is silly and mindless, and I can doze in the middle, wake up and find I haven't missed a thing.

But, we have exciting news.  We're working out the details to bring in a fascinating book, a mystery thriller, written with the real - life knowledge and experiences of a criminal investigator in the mid - west.  If all goes well, we can offer it around the first of June.  Far more interesting, exciting, and real than NCIS, you won't be napping through this book.

Speaking of exciting, Read An Ebook Week is well underway at Smashword.com.  A Plane Proposal and our lately lamented Wife in the Mirror are both offered free, and both are flying off the virtual shelves.  If you're curious about either of them, you can't ask for more than a free copy, can you?  If you like them, post a nice review.  If you didn't, drop us a line and tell us why.

The Boss is back with fresh coffee and my favorite biscuits, so it's time to go to work.
