It's raining, and KUSC.org is streaming live from the Met.  I don't like opera.  It sounds like coyotes with a kill, but the Boss loves it and La Boheme is the Boss' favorite.  This can work two ways:  either the Boss will be so distracted with the music that nothing gets done, or the Boss will be inspired to be more productive than normal.  So far it looks more like the former than the latter, but we're still in the first act....Rudolfo has just met Mimi.

Boss is formatting the newest edition to the Library.  It's called Learning to Be Irish and it's a little more lighthearted than the previous two books.  It's not La Boheme, it's more like Pirates of Penzance.   A girl from New York inherits a house in Ireland and the only way she can rid herself of the encumbrance is to go there and sell it.  Since this is a roma-sorry, the Boss doesn't like the term romance, but prefers Contemporary Relationship Fiction, and since Learning to Be Irish is one of those, there will be mysterious men in her life, and circumstances will force her to stay in Ireland long enough to discover a few mysteries of her own.

Well, Rudolfo is wooing Mimi now, so I think I'll go watch the rain until I'm needed.

The Boss and the Boss's ManservantGeeves were away yesterday on business, so I held the fort.  Because things are always so hectic when the Boss is around (the Boss cannot do one thing at a time if there are two or three things to be done at a time) it was a nice time for contemplation.

People work too hard.  I mean the people who work, work too hard.  And for what?  Yes, times are difficult and people need money, and if you're not employed or underemployed, I sympathize, but for the most part, people work hard for things they think they must have and really don't need.  Or they work for money to save up so they can say they have so much money in the bank.  But all the money in the world, all the things in the world will not buy time.  And who will care how much money you have or how many things you have if you're dead?

So...take a minute from that quest for money and things and go out and stand in the garden.  I do and yesterday I saw two red tailed hawks soaring over the canyon.  They didn't appear to be on the hunt.  They just seemed to be enjoying a good current and the sensation of being alive.  I was so inspired by their smooth, swooping, dipping and ascending roller coaster flight that I went inside and took a nap.

If you don't have red tail hawks, a canyon or even a garden at hand, pat a dog.  Dogs don't live for things.  Dogs live for love.  They really do.  I think dogs and hawks have the right idea.

This Tuesday's Title is Wife in the Mirror.  It's about a girl named Fran who thinks she's a 'nobody', and suddenly everyone she meets thinks she's somebody-somebody else!  There's danger and confusion and romance and a luau.

So if you're in the mood for roast pig and palm trees, check it out.  You can get it for your computer, your e-book and your iBone - er, Phone.  If you want an old fashioned paperback book, you can get one of those, too.  But write the Boss and ask nice and you might get a 15% discount off the cover price.

Gotta go.  Tea time.

The Boss was under the weather last week so we never opened the office.  I spent the weekend enjoying my hearth and old movies and some long naps.  It's hard work keeping up with the Boss, so a little laziness now and then is welcome.

But here it is, Monday morning, it's drizzly and cold, and there are no birds to admire, although we did see one small brown bunny and one grey and white feral cat.

Today the Boss is busy formatting the next book for various digital markets.  It's called Wife in the Mirror and it takes place in Hawaii.  It's hard to imagine a tropical setting on a cold, wet morning like this.  This is a pretty good book.  Advance previews have been favorable and even though it's a woman in jeopardy story and the Boss doesn't like women in jeopardy stories, this one passes muster because the heroine is as much responsible for her escape as the hero.  Yay, Woman!Power.

Nothing like a brisk winter morning to make you appreciate a fire and good hot beverage.
We were in the office by six thirty this morning, but as soon as things were set up, we took a break to look at the flora and fauna, while having our breakfast.  We get many birds here; from the tiniest hummingbirds to red tail hawks with a wingspan like a jumbo jet.  Every morning we are visited by quail and mourning doves and tiny birds in yellow waistcoast which the Boss says might be finch.  The Boss is always feeding them breadcrumbs so every morning we have more birds and a greater variety.
Once the routines were seen to, we came back to the office, started a fire, and got into position for another busy day.  Today we're working on the website.  The Boss said I could have a blog to talk about what matters to me, although I don't what I would talk about.  I guess, today, I talked about birds.  And bread.  And hot beverages.  Maybe next time I'll talk about the Boss and books.
Have a great day!
